mitte der neunziger setzte sich terry lee brown jr. alias norman feller an eine symbiose aus techno und house, zwei damals sich eher gegeneinander ausspielende genres. heute ist tech-house dank deutscher labels wie pokerflat, perlon oder plastic city allgegenwärtig und hat selbst dem minimal-hype der letzten jahre standgehalten. mit letzterem label ist terry lee brown jr. eng verbunden. ein großer teil seiner langen diskografie wurde dort veröffentlicht. drei alben, unzählige dj-gigs, unzählige remixe, eine eigene dj-mix-cd-serie und immer wieder auch ausflüge in trance-, downbeat- oder breakbeat-gefilde – es ist eine erfolggeschichte. sein viertes album „karambolage“ ist das erste seit sechs jahren. gewohnt sicher und feingliedrig geht mr. brown ans werk. da sitzt jeder beat, da werden saubere melodien eingewoben und die balance zwischen musikalität und funktionalität ausgelotet. zum album erschien ebenfalls eine limitierte 7“ mit einem „karambolage-edit“, einem stück, das die fixpunkte des albums in einem ganzen verschmilzt. doch keine bange, es handelt sich nicht um einen liebloses medley. die edit-version ist ein ganzer track, der den status quo von terry lee brown jr. beleuchtet.

part 2 of darren allen’s discobar debut takes us on four more precision mindtrips, exploring further the technological influences found in part 1. on ‘atonement’, clattering percussive and plunging bass come laced with a stinsonesque synth line, creating a flightier vibe. the distorted hum of hardware-gone-haywire introduces ‘scanners’, a convulsed tribute to the cronenburg classic that rounds out this ep in typically trippy style.‘tv sickness’ is a post-perlon prowler, the softened shuffle of its first half returning with renewed vigour after a woozy mid-track breakdown, then reprised in a beatless coda.

swiss producer honorée returns to rekids with maree haute ep this january, featuring two intelligently produced deep cuts with a remix from perlon’s margaret dygas. basel-based artist honorées inaugural release marée basse ep appeared on rekids earlier this year and demonstrated a musical understanding acquired from extensive dj experience within switzerland’s club scene. marée haute ep is honorée’s second outing on rekids and includes a remix from renowned minimal dj/producer and panorama bar regular margaret dygas. dorian delivers crisp drum grooves which underpin mesmerising chord progressions, haunting synthesizer motifs and spacey vocals before 208 provides infectious drum rhythms, glitched vocal cuts and hypnotic melodies which sit on top of a rumbling low-end. margaret dygas take on dorian offers a pulsating bass hook and sharp percussion which lays the foundation for dubbed-out synths and ethereal atmospheres to close the release.

in the field of minimal house reissues, this is a big deal. perlon main man dimbiman doesn’t appear on wax often, but when he does he makes it count. this early release on baby ford s seminal pal sl was originally out in 1998, when minimal house was a vague concept at best on the most outer reaches of dance music. -iso grifo- itself remains a masterclass of spine-chilling space and perfectly strange sonic matter, while -lava- pushes the notion of reduction dance music to its absolute limit. -round- is an even more immersive affair that hides many subtle layers within its seemingly simple construct. quite simply groundbreaking stuff, and highly sought after so don’t sleep on it.

following his release on perlon as alter mahnn, collective member ion ludwig signs toi.toi s 4th release. the ep brings two tracks carefully chosen and crafted. rather than having the dance floor as a drive they are rather more mind driven, a very mature ep. not for you - this track, from the very beginning, manages to create a tension, a rather pleasant tension, a constancy is built and it does keep giving very slowly, building up to be an amazing jam suiting a dance floor as well as an inner moment of peace. are we for real brings a very slick groover. it brings a very delicate and extremely classy straight hihat leading the way at the forefront while the mind is grabbed by the musicality through a beautiful melody in addition to many hypnotic noises in and out.
